Description:

Rescue Boat WALTER ROSE / VERENA

WALTER ROSE is a 9.5 metre class rescue boat operated by the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS). The rescue boat was built at the Lürssen shipyard in Bardenfleth in 2003. Initially it was stationed in Helgoland and was named VERENA. It functioned a daughter-boat on the high seas rescue cruiser HERMANN MARWEDE. At the end of 2012 HERMANN MARWEDE received a new daughter boat and since then the renamed WALTER ROSE has been used as a stand-alone rescue boat at the volunteer rescue boat station Schilksee on the Kiel Fjord. The 9.5-meter rescue boats have a delta-hull and are characterised by excellent seaworthiness. Since its foundation in 1865, crews of the DGzRS have rescued around 81,000 people in distress or danger at sea. The work of the rescue boat crews is funded entirely from voluntary donations and the DGzRS has never asked for any public funds
