1/72 Scale news, November 2021.

Aircraft model kits

2021/11/01

Eduard is always one of the brands with some novelty in 1/72 scale every month of the year, and one the brands that usually opens our monthly news report. This month the brand bring back a MiG-21MF kit, Eduard – 7458 – MiG-21MF Fighter Bomber (Weekend Edition). Even being a Weekend Edition, without extra detail parts, kit is awesome by itself, and decal sheet and technical stencils provided, are just outstanding. Not without reason, Eduard MiG-21MF kit, is considered by many as the best kit available for this topic.

Together with the already announced Heller Canadair kits re-fresh (Heller – 56373 – CANADAIR CL-215 (Starter Kit) and Heller – 80373 – Canadair CL 215 after the already released Heller – 56370 – CANADAIR CL-415 (Starter Kit) and Heller – 80370 – Canadair CL-415), the “French” brand continues reboxing their classic line, which means better availability and fresh printed decals, and we updated today Heller – 80308 – Boeing E-3B Awacs and added Heller – 56308 – E-3B AWACS (Starter Kit) . But we also found a surprise by Heller, as they will be also releasing Heller – 30319 – MIRAGE F1 B and Heller – 35319 – MIRAGE F1 B (Starter Kit) the Starter kit version . And the surprise is they are Special Hobby Mirage F1 B plastic parts. This could point the direction of the strategy of the brand for the next years. Anyway it means you get a good kit as Special Hobby is, with a new set of decals. Considering they chosen to include two French markings for a Mirage F1B which is also was widely exported, looks like they are only looking for a French internal market, and probably release will not be of many units and limited distribution.

Fly is another great manufacturer in our pending list, and in our to-do list for the comings months. To start with, we just added Fly – 72033 – BRISTOL 170 FREIGHTER MK.21 and Fly – 72030 – BRISTOL 170 FREIGHTER MK.31, newly tooled past 2020 year. The brand has take care of the differences in the tailfin between the two variants perfectly. The aircraft was widely used for 3 decades, so maybe we’ll see new markings in the future.

2021/11/02

Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) smashes the end of the year with a massive update and we have started by add not one by four new Spitfire Mk.Ia kits newly tooled, with several options as you can see in the sprue pictures. The new kits are Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0260 – Spitfire Mk.Ia “Wats Prop”, Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0261 – Spitfire Mk.Ia “Three Blade Prop”, Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0263 – Spitfire Mk.Ia “Black & White” and Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0262 – Spitfire Mk.Ia “Commanders”.

This is only the beginning, since Kovozávody has released 10 more kits which will add in the next days.

To follow up the Kovozávody massive update, we have 4 kits devoted to the nice Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet, and aircraft which had lot of attention in the 70s to 90s, with Matchbox, Heller, Starfix, Airfix and Fujimi tooling their own kits for the same topic, but it’s a long time since this, sso fresh moulds are very welcome. The new kits are Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0264 – Alpha Jet E “In French Services”, Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0265 – Alpha Jet A “Canadian Top Aces”, Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0266 – Alpha Jet A “Bundesluftwaffe” and Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0267 – Alpha Jet A “QinetiQ”. We think we’ll see more releases in the future, a lot of possible markings for this aircraft are possible. Is curious than in all the options, Kovozávody has included two private defence contractors.

2021/11/03

For the World War One fans, Kovozávody also has great news this month, with 6 new releases. The first 3 we added are all for the LFG Roland D.II, a single seat fighter/scout German aircraft, also produced by Pfalz. The kits are : Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0271 – LFG Roland D.IIa “Haifisch”, Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0270 – LFG Roland D.II “Haifisch” and Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0272 – Pfalz D.II “Haifisch”.

And finishing with this massive update, and also for WWI fans, we have Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0273 – Sopwith Dolphin “RFC”, Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0275 – Sopwith Dolphin “In Polish Services” and Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0275 – Sopwith Dolphin “In Polish Services”.

Stransky kits keep releasing new markings for their Bücker Bü 181 Bestmann kit as is the new Stransky Kits – 7205 – HELIOPOLIS MK.II GOMHOURIA. Being the 4th release of the same kit, plus 2 by Kovozávody, maybe it’s enough.

2021/11/06

After several months without novelties in 1/72 scale, Italeri bring this month Italeri – 1459 – Jaguar GR.1/GR.3 RAF, new decals for a kit which has been released maybe over 10 times since tooled in 1996, also released under Revell and Tamiya brands.

Thanks to Peter McKay we have added sprue pictures to Hobby Boss – 87203 – A-7D Corsair II. Don’t miss also his review and build of the same kit Hobbyboss A-7D Corsair II build review

And visiting the Chinese brand, we found they have a new F8F kit coming soon, Hobby Boss – 87268 – F8F-1B Bearcat

2021/11/07

Despite Fly is not listing this kit in their website, several stores are announcing them as novelty and so we added Fly – 72046 – Fiat G.50 “Freccia” Italian Fighter Aircraft.

2021/11/08

Hasegawa will be releasing shortly a new F-2A kit, Hasegawa – 02390 – F-2A Kai. Also by the Japanese brand, and expected for the early 2022, a new limited edition of the P1Y Ginga Hasegawa – 02393 – P1Y1 Ginga TYPE 11 763rd Air Corps is coming.

2021/11/13

LF Models is releasing these days 3 kits for the Hiller OH-23 Raven light utility helicopter which was a big success in the early helicopters times after WWII both military and civilian. 2021/11/14

LF Models – PE7249 – Agusta-Bell 47J Ranger – (Yugoslavian AF, RDAF, RNoAF)

They all can be considered as Limited Editions, the short run technology, together with split the moulds into 6 different kits, and the not wide distribution of the brand, makes each of the kits to have a limited availability.

2021/11/15

Recovered today a missed entry from Italeri, Italeri – 162 – MiG 37B Ferret E. This aircraft was created by Testors and later re-tooled by Italeri. It’s a fictional aircraft which never has existed.

2021/12/17

Without time to breathe Arma Hobby unveils the last new release for this year, totally new tooled molds, Arma Hobby – 70038 – P-51 B/C Mustang Expert Set, and for sure a kit series which will have continuation during 2022. As Expert Set line kit, includes PE parts and paint mask, plus a nice selection of 7 paint schemes and markings. We also added today detailed sprue pictures of the FM-2 kit, Arma Hobby – 70034 – FM-2 Wildcat Training Cats, as well as sprues and markings options pictures added to Arma Hobby – 70035 – Hawker Hurricane Mk IIc (Expert Set).

KP (Kovozávody Prostějov) smashes the end of the year with almost a dozen of new releases by the late November/early December, bringing back some nice kits and extending the markings options for some of the newly released this year kits. The first two references added today are for a classic Heller kit, the Aérospatiale Alouette III, with a total of 8 new markings, mostly devoted to International (not French) users of the popular helicopter which still remains in flight conditions after 60 years of its initial flight. The two kits are Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0279 – Alouette III “International” and Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0278 – Alouette III “Over Europe”.

Secondly, we have added the restored moulds Bloch MB.200 kits, an original KP release from the past, also seen under Smer brand, which offer 6 new markings and offers both the original and licensed Aero MB-200. The new kits are Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0281 – Bloch MB-200 and Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0280 – Aero MB-200. We must admit we love these Inter-wars / 30s flying beasts.
*Note that some of the old original releases from the mid 80s, can appear on sale, but due the aged decals and not revised moulds we recommend to wait for these new releases.

Thirdly, the brand increases their Hawker Tempest offer with 4 new releases and 12 different markings (most of them after WWII), Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0223 – Tempest F.6, Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0224 – Tempest F.6 “Silver wings”, Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0225 – Tempest F.6 “Over Egypt” and Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0252 – Tempest Mk.V “At war”.

The brand adds two more Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet kits which join the 4 released just in the previous batch couple of weeks ago, adding 6 new markings from international users, split between attack or trainer variant. Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPMN0268 – Alpha Jet A/E “International” and Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0269 – Alpha Jet A/E “Over Africa” join the family.

Not a novelty but brand (KP) will re-release also Kovozávody – KPM0187 – MiG-19S Farmer-C “Warsaw Pact”.

2021/19/11

Sova-M will be releasing next month two kits for the General Aviation GA-43 a mid 30s airliner with only 5 units built (one with floats). The kits are Sova-M – 72037 – General Aviation GA-43 Clark (Manchurian Air Lines) and Sova-M – 72035 – General Aviation GA-43 Clark (Líneas Aéreas Postales Españolas). We guess, will see more releases of this kit in the with remaining markings, Swiss airlines and Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transportes Aéreos (SCATA) the one which floats.

A very large batch of releases by MisterCraft is appearing, mainly on Polish retailers at this moment, which includes also some of the long ago announced kits. The brand is some hard to trace lately due the lack of updates in their website, so we can only rely on sellers offering the kits. By now we added the following kits:
MisterCraft – F-31 – EC-145 Medicopter 117/REGA (long time waited, originally tooled by Heller in year 2006)
MisterCraft – D-56 – UH-1N “Desert Huey” (ex Aeroplast ?).
MisterCraft – D-55 – UH-1N “Secret Mission” (ex Aeroplast ?).
MisterCraft – D-84 – AV-8A Harrier “Marines” (ex Aeroplast).
MisterCraft – D-178 – Spitfire Mk.VIIIc “Far East & RAAF” (ex KP ? maybe still ex Heller ?)

MisterCraft – F-222 – IL-2 “Gorbatij/Humpbag” (ex ZTS Plastyk)

There could be more kits coming in next days.
In addition to the new releases, and in a tedious effort, we located two gaps in our Mistercraft listing, and added also MisterCraft – D-192 – SPITFIRE MK.Vb/Trop and Mistercraft – B-38 – PZL P-7a “In Soviet Hands” 39.

2021/19/23

Looks like there has been a re-stock of several of their kits, so if you like something from their catalogue looks like a good moment to purchase.

They are also releasing this month Special Armour – SA72026 – 15cm Nebelwerfer 41 “German Multiple Rocket Launcher” which looks like a nicely detailed kit, but as always happen with this kind of releases we always miss a full crew with them. By surprise, US based sellers are starting to offer 4 new kits by HäT, all of them devoted to Italian WWI infantry. While we don’t agree the mix done in the Arditi box, all the figures looks fine and useful. The kits are HäT – 8221 – WWI Italian Arditi, HäT – 8221 – WWI Italian Arditi, HäT – 8223 – WWI Italian Infantry and a combination of all of them in the HäT – 8331 – WWI Italian Sampler. HäT hasn’t updated the status of these kits, so we guess sellers are offering them in pre-order.

For sure this big box Italeri – 6198 – Montecassino Abbey 1944 Breaking the Gustav Line (Battle Set) will be a best-seller for this christmas. Italeri is an specialist in this kind of boxes and they always have their public waiting for them. In this case, we agree the MDF building is a very nice one, with the “wreckable” feature making it more interesting.

The new models are Bandai – 62020 – MAILeS JOGAN (Amaim Warrior at the Borderline) and Bandai – 62021 – ARMORED SPECIAL CARRIER (ASC) (Amaim Warrior at the Borderline) and they feature common things to all the recent meccha lines by Bandai, such movable parts, interchangable parts and others. The series is only broadcasted in Japan and Japanese language as far as we know, so only our Japanese audience and the very meccha lovers find this of interest at this moment.

Miscellaneous Updates

As advanced, we are adding more “local” stores for each of the countries we work for, and we have started to populate links to PIEZA A PIEZA, a Spanish based store. These links, when available, only appears for our Spanish customers.

There will be more changes related to the stores we link in the coming days.

2021/11/30

We have removed the “Specials” section due its poor performance and technical problems.

In the good news section, we say welcome to Hobby.dn.ua as one of the stores we usually link to, a very representative store from East Europe (Ukraine) which not only stocks the common Ukrainian brands but also does a great effort importing other brands into Ukraine for the best of the Ukrainian modellers who are a well bunch and very talented ones.
