Description:

Polish infantry (early)
Thirty Years War

This set works pretty well with some time ago released 72033 – Polish Infantry Mercenaries (Haiduks).

The box contains 48 figures in 12 poses. Moulds quality and/or sculpture is not always the best in this brand, but for sure you will find some useful figures inside this box, and this is the only brand continuously doing an effort for the Thirty Years War period and in particular for the Polish army at the time.

Sprue Pictures and Back box

The box contains one single sprue included four times. Each sprue contains 12 figures in 12 poses. This kind of format causes too much duplication in poses which should be unique to keep the ratios also in scale, as for example the officer, the standard bearer, the musician or the sergeant with an halberd, that mostly would have done a nice unique sprue with four unique figures.

A quick look into the sprues brings some interesting figures and some odds as well.

Close up detail pictures

The close up view confirms what mostly you can expect from the Mars sets of this time, this set was released in 2012, and for years the Mars range has been defined by the same facts and style, specially around the Renaissance and Thirty Years War range.

We don’t found this set in the worse examples of Mars moulds, though mould lines are disgusting in some figures, they are quite clean and usable. The sculpture, again, bring us quite rough details, specially about faces, hands or weapons, but some of the figures stand out as really good enough and interesting figures. In between them, we found both the halberd and the main standard bearer as really nice figures well proportioned and reasonably well detailed and casted. The man reloading is also a very nice pose, but the face is a bit too rough, as well as in general all the muskets are too rough too, which worsen most of the figures as most of them are musketeers.

Our sample is a late sample for a Mars mould age, dated around 5 years after release. According to other reports looks like this has increased the amount of flash & mould lines.

In our opinion this is a good set and valuable if you like the period and the topic, though figures need a careful clean up of the mould lines.
