Description:

British Vosper M.T.B.

Revell tooled this kit in 1965, under the name of McHale’s Navy PT-73, McHale’s Navy was an U.S. TV shows ran from 1962 to 1966 through 138 episodes, and roughly for what’s important here, depicting the life of a Patrol Boat (the PT-73) crew.

During 60s Revell vinculated many of their releases in any scale to successful TV or Films shows, as the Pirate ship for example (Revell – 05433 / 85-0386 – Pirate Ghost Ship (Caribbean Pirate ship)) and this was the case too. In the TV series, the PT-73, an U.S. Torpedo boat, was depicted by a British a 71-foot type II Vosper MTB (motor torpedo boat) and that’s what the kit attempted to depict. The Type II didn’t entered service during WWII.

Kit consists of just 77 parts, not enough for such quite big topic, includes four crew figures, and in general the kit is not considered very accurate either detailed, specially the weapons, and the shape of the hull is not totally correct. Anyway it’s the only kit in 1/72 scale depicting this Vosper class, because both the Airfix kit and the Tamiya kit depicts different Vosper classes.

The kit was released for last time during the 90s, using the code number of this set (05084) and the same box art. Eduard released a detail set for this set that helps to improve the model.
