Description:

Unassembled plastic model kit in 1/72 scale of a British research aircraft Fairey Delta 2.

The British supersonic research aircraft known as the Fairey Delta 2, or FD2 (internally designated Type V within Fairey), was developed by the Fairey Aviation Company in response to a Ministry of Supply specification. This specification sought a specialized aircraft for investigating flight and control at transonic and supersonic speeds. Notable features of the FD2 included a delta wing and a drooped nose. On October 6, 1954, the Delta 2 successfully completed its maiden flight, piloted by Fairey test pilot Peter Twiss. Two aircraft were ultimately produced, marking the Delta 2 as the final aircraft manufactured by Fairey as an independent company.

Distinguished as the first jet aircraft to surpass 1,000 miles per hour (1,600 km/h) in level flight, the Fairey Delta 2 achieved a significant milestone. On March 10, 1956, it set a new world speed record of 1,132 mph (1,822 km/h), surpassing the previous official record by 310 mph (500 km/h). The Delta 2 held the absolute World Air Speed Record for over a year. Despite this achievement, it continued to serve in flight testing and was later assigned to the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) in 1958.

Kit include PE (photo-etched) detail parts, canopy paint mask and decal sheet with 4 markings,
