8.8cm Flak 37 2 Pz. Div. Moscow Area (USSR) – 1941
First 88’s prototype were produced in 1928, and begun larger production in 1933, when Nazi party raised power in Germany. This weapon was deployed on Spanish Civil War, in his early version (Flak 18). It proved to be useful against aviation and also proved his great value as direct fire gun, against vehicles or fortified positions.
After this war experience, 88s begun to be improved, two mainly versions, Flak 36 and Flak 37 were developed, with improved guns and instrumentation.
Also was usual the use of a frontal armour shield to cover crew.
As anti tank weapon was formidable almost until end of the war, when larger armour from heavy tanks begun to resist the 8,8cm fire.
In their anti-aircraft role it suffer the great advance on velocity and altitude that aviation achieves during world war two, and a powerful version Flak 41 was designed, although never massively produced and deployed. 8.8 cm gun were widely used in several versions for anti tank guns or tanks.
Altaya’s model depict a Flak 37 with armour shield, in transport mode (fixed), with his usual basic finish. A expensive toy more than a collection item.
