Zegapain is a 26-episode anime series produced by Sunrise in 2006, blending mecha action with philosophical science fiction.

In the anime series Zegapain, Altair refers to one of the Zegapain mecha units, specifically the one piloted by the protagonist Kyo Sogoru. Known as the Zegapain Altair, it serves as the central mecha in the series and plays a critical role in the battles against the Gards-orm, the main antagonistic force.

The Altair is a sleek, high-performance unit designed for agile combat, equipped with energy-based weaponry and capable of materializing in the battlefield through quantum teleportation. Its design reflects both cutting-edge futuristic tech and a symbolic link to Kyo’s journey, particularly as he begins to uncover unsettling truths about his world and his own existence. As the series progresses, Altair becomes more than just a weapon — it’s a symbol of resistance and identity, tied deeply to Kyo’s struggle to define what’s real in a virtual, fragmented universe.

The name “Altair” itself is a reference to a bright star in the constellation Aquila, which fits the series’ recurring use of celestial and philosophical imagery.

Snap-fit assembly kit. A display stand is also included to display it in flight mode. Also includes a LED light to be placed inside the mecha’s cockpit for a lighting effect.

Strangely, this was the only 1/72 scale model released by Bandai for the Zegapain series.
