The Embraer EMB-110C Bandeirante is a twin-turboprop utility aircraft developed in Brazil in the late 1960s by Embraer (Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica). Its name, Bandeirante (“pioneer”), pays homage to the 17th-century Brazilian explorers who expanded the country’s interior — a fitting name for an aircraft designed to connect remote regions.

The EMB-110C was the first production version of the aircraft, primarily configured for civilian passenger service, with capacity for 15–21 passengers depending on the layout. It was powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-27 engines, which made it reliable and capable of operating from short and unpaved runways — ideal for regional transport in developing areas and rugged terrain. The aircraft featured a pressurized cabin in later variants, but the original EMB-110C remained unpressurized.

First flown in 1968 and entering service in the early 1970s, the Bandeirante quickly became a backbone of regional aviation in Brazil and other countries across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Its robust airframe and excellent STOL (short takeoff and landing) performance made it popular for both commercial and military users, including versions adapted for cargo, surveillance, and maritime patrol.

Though production ended in the early 1990s, many EMB-110Cs are still flying today — a testament to the design’s durability and practicality. It also marked the beginning of Embraer’s rise as a major player in the global aerospace industry.
