The TG-10D Peregrine is the United States Air Force Academy’s designation for a glider based on the Let L-33 Solo, a Czech-designed sailplane. The Let L-33 Solo was developed in the late 1980s by LET Kunovice as a single-seat successor to the popular Let L-23 Super Blaník, focusing on providing a training platform for solo glider flight after basic dual instruction.

The L-33 Solo features an all-metal airframe, with a semi-monocoque fuselage and metal wings and tail surfaces. It’s notable for its robustness, ease of handling, and forgiving flight characteristics, making it an ideal trainer for pilots transitioning to solo soaring. It has a wingspan of 14.12 meters (about 46 feet) and a glide ratio around 33:1, which, while modest compared to high-performance competition sailplanes, is excellent for training purposes. Its cockpit is roomy and ergonomically simple, offering good visibility, all of which contribute to a very pilot-friendly experience.

At the USAF Academy, the TG-10D was used as an advanced training glider after students completed their initial dual training on two-seat models. It served to prepare cadets for more complex solo flight operations, emphasizing precision, energy management, and advanced soaring techniques. The USAF eventually replaced the TG-10 series with newer models like the TG-15 and TG-16, but the TG-10D/Peregrine left a strong legacy in developing military aviators’ soaring skills.

Kit include one TG-10D U.S. marking, and two Let L-33 markings, for Chilean and Japanese aircrafts. This is a 2025 new tooled kit.
