Tooled and released for first time in 1969 this set paved the way for a nice tradition of Highlanders plastic soldiers sets in 1/72 scale, and as with other things in life, age and comparisons are not always good for the first one. The set shares the bad poses and chunky style of many of the sets tooled between 1968 and 1972 by Airfix, but in this one there are some nice figures, and always the merit of be the first one, is easier improve when you go through an already walked way.

The set includes 45 foot figures and one mounted officer, in a total of 15 different poses, plus the horse. We specially like the pose of the man kneeling and holding a charge with bayonet ready. Of course, the sculpture detail level is for 1968 and not for things we started to see about a decade later. Figures are also in the smaller side of the scale, with a 22mm height average.

This set was kept in catalogue till 1996 and usually was also included the Waterloo battle playsets.
