Hasegawa’s reissue of the 1/72 scale F/A-18D Hornet brings back one of their most detailed and well-engineered kits of the twin-seat strike fighter. The F/A-18D is a versatile all-weather aircraft used primarily for night attack and forward air control missions. Featuring tandem cockpits, the “D” model is flown by both Navy and Marine Corps units, with the rear seat typically occupied by a weapons systems officer. The kit captures the sleek lines and muscular stance of the Hornet with finely recessed panel lines, detailed cockpit interiors, and options for underwing ordnance, including drop tanks, missiles, and targeting pods. Fit is crisp, and with careful assembly, it builds into a sharp and accurate replica of this multirole jet.

This release includes new markings for VMFA(AW)-115 “Silver Eagles”, a distinguished U.S. Marine Corps squadron based at MCAS Beaufort. Originally activated in World War II, the squadron has a long history of service, including deployments in the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Known for their clean silver eagle tail markings and high operational tempo, VMFA-115 has flown the F/A-18D since the 1990s and continues to support expeditionary Marine Air-Ground Task Force operations. The included decal sheet features the squadron’s emblem and contemporary low-visibility markings, offering modelers a chance to build a current, combat-relevant aircraft with strong historical roots.
