Description:

The F-4K Phantom FG.1 was a uniquely British adaptation of the American F-4 Phantom II, tailored to meet Royal Navy requirements for carrier operations. Developed in the 1960s, it incorporated several major modifications, most notably the installation of Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines, which provided increased thrust at low altitudes but necessitated a redesigned fuselage, enlarged intakes, and a strengthened airframe.

Another key feature was its extendable nosewheel leg, which allowed the aircraft to achieve a steeper angle of attack during catapult launches from British carriers. The FG.1 was equipped with British-made avionics and radar systems, including the AN/AWG-11 radar, which was similar in function to the U.S. AN/AWG-10 but adapted to UK standards.
