The Fw 190D-9 “Mimetall” (Broad Tail) refers to late-production variants of the Dora series fitted with a broad tail derived from the Ta 152 design. This larger vertical stabilizer, often called the “broad tail” or “Einheits-Heck“, improved flight stability and control, particularly at high speeds and altitudes. Aircraft produced at the Mimetall factory also featured unique cowling elements, including a distinctive three-piece gun cowl with a flared lower edge. Powered by the Junkers Jumo 213A inline engine, the D-9 offered superior high-altitude performance, speed, and climb rate compared to earlier radial-engine Fw 190 models, making it a formidable opponent to Allied fighters late in the war.

The kit capture these late-war features with a high level of detail. The kit accurately reflects the modified tail assembly, revised cowling shape, and typical camouflage patterns used on aircraft from units such as JG 2 and JG 26. It provides modelers with finely engraved surface details and correct proportions for this specialized sub-variant of the famous Focke-Wulf fighter.
