Description:

The Westland Sea King Mk.41 was a specialized variant of the British-made Sea King helicopter, developed for the German Navy (Marineflieger) and tailored specifically for search and rescue (SAR) as well as anti-submarine warfare (ASW) roles. Based on the Westland Sea King HAS.1, the Mk.41 incorporated several modifications suited to the operational needs and geography of Germany’s maritime environment, especially the North and Baltic Seas.

Delivered starting in the mid-1970s, the Sea King Mk.41 was equipped with advanced avionics for its time, including radar, sonar systems, and navigation aids designed for all-weather and night operations. Over the decades, the fleet underwent multiple upgrades to enhance capabilities such as GPS navigation, secure communications, and modernized cockpit systems. The helicopters were also capable of deploying sonobuoys and torpedoes, although in practice, their role focused more on SAR and transport duties rather than frontline ASW.

With a roomy cabin, hoist systems, and the ability to operate from ships or unprepared coastal areas, the Sea King Mk.41 played a crucial role in Germany’s peacetime maritime rescue missions. It became a familiar sight to sailors and coastal communities, often performing medevac operations from ships, assisting in disaster response, and supporting NATO exercises.

An original Revell kit tooled in 1998 consisting of 132 plastic parts. This kit is praised for its crisp recessed panel lines, well‑captured rivet detail, nice cockpit bulkheads and engine fan detail and its fine stenciling and detailed rotor head.
