The Dodge WC-17, also known in some contexts as WC-26 when referencing later variants, was a ½-ton 4×4 carryall truck built by Dodge as part of its early WC series during World War II. Designed for general utility and personnel transport, the carryall configuration featured a fully enclosed metal body with two front doors and a two-piece rear door, resembling a civilian station wagon but ruggedized for military use. It was intended to transport up to eight troops or a mix of cargo and personnel, making it a versatile and dependable field vehicle.

Like other ½-ton WC models, the WC-17 used the Dodge 116-inch wheelbase chassis and was powered by a 6-cylinder Dodge T-214 engine producing around 92 horsepower. It had a 4-speed manual transmission paired with a 2-speed transfer case, providing effective off-road capability. The vehicle’s four-wheel drive system and solid axles made it well suited to rough terrain, and its all-steel body provided better durability and weather protection than canvas-topped models.

The WC-17 carryall saw use in a variety of roles, including as a command or radio vehicle, field support transport, or general utility wagon. It could be outfitted with additional gear depending on the mission, and its enclosed nature made it particularly useful in colder climates or for protecting sensitive equipment. While it was later superseded by more modern ¾-ton models such as the WC-53 carryall, the WC-17 was an important part of the U.S. military’s early war mobility and logistics system. Today, it’s appreciated by collectors and restorers for its distinctive body style and its role as a multi-purpose support vehicle in the early years of the war.
