AMG (Arsenal Model Group) – 72510 – Kolossal-wagen (Early version)

Description:

Unassembled plastic model kit in 1/72 scale of a German World War I K-Wagen super heavy tank.

Design was ordered in 1917, intended to be used in break-through situations, Joseph Vollmer was approved that same year and 10 units were ordered.

The initial weight of the vehicle stood at 165 tons, but for practical considerations, it was later reduced to a more manageable 120 tons by shortening its length. Given the immense size and mass of the K-Wagen, transporting it as a whole proved unfeasible. Consequently, a decision was made to divide it into four sections for rail transport, with plans to reassemble it behind the front lines near its intended deployment area.

The K-Wagen was to be armed with four 77mm fortress guns and seven MG08 machine guns and had a crew of 27 men.

In response to Hindenburg’s request, two prototypes were constructed; however, they remained unfinished at the close of the war. The lack of raw materials and competing demands for weaponry contributed to the incomplete status of these prototypes.

Kit seems to be bit rough, include PE parts and decal sheet with two markings, for the two prototypes never finished. As most of the tracks are hide, they have been partially tooled, just the visible area, in the same material and you need to blend them for assemble.

As per 2024 this is the only model in injected plastic for a K-Wagen, a subject that Kora Models also tooled in resin, as well as Blitz Workshop.
