Revell – 03346 – M1A1 AIM(SA)/M1A2 Abrams

Description:

Unassembled plastic model kit in 1/72 scale of a U.S. M1 Abrams main battle tank. The kit allows to build either M1A1 AIM v.2 or M1A2 upgraded variants.

The M1A1 AIM v.1 (Abrams Integrated Management) program focuses on refurbishing older units to zero-hour conditions. This includes enhancements such as the integration of Forward-Looking InfraRed (FLIR) and Far Target Locate sensors, a tank-infantry phone, and advanced communications gear like FBCB2 and Blue Force Tracking. The addition of a thermal sight for the .50 caliber machine gun enhances crew situational awareness.

In the case of the M1A1 AIM v.2/M1A1SA (Situational Awareness), it builds upon the improvements of AIM v.1 with the inclusion of new third-generation depleted uranium armor components. Notably, a variant tailored for the Royal Moroccan Army closely mirrors the Australian version, except for the replacement of depleted uranium armor with exportable turret armor installed by General Dynamics Land System.

The M1A2, entering production in 1992 with an initial operating capability achieved in 1993, represents a significant advancement. With over 600 M1s upgraded to M1A2, this version introduces independent thermal sight for the tank commander and the capability to engage two targets rapidly without sequential acquisition. Additionally, it features second-generation depleted uranium armor components and has been export to Saudi Arabia, Egypt or Kuwait.

Reissue with a new decal sheet of kit Revell – 03146 – M1 A2 Abrams. Includes one Australian marking (M1A1) and one U.S. marking (M1A2). Kit consists of around 126 parts with link-and-length tracks. Molds tooled in 1997 (M1A1) and updated in 2005 (M1A2).
