The BMP-3 is a Russian infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) that first entered service in the late 1980s, designed as an evolution of the BMP-1 and BMP-2 series. Unlike its predecessors, the BMP-3 features a unique armament configuration, combining a 100mm 2A70 gun capable of firing both high-explosive shells and 9M117 Bastion anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), a 30mm 2A72 autocannon, and three 7.62mm machine guns for additional firepower. This makes it one of the most heavily armed IFVs in the world.

Powered by a UTD-29 500-horsepower diesel engine, the BMP-3 is highly mobile on various terrains, with a top speed of around 70 km/h (43 mph) on roads and 10 km/h (6.2 mph) in water, thanks to its fully amphibious design. It can transport up to seven infantry soldiers in the rear compartment while providing them with gun ports for firing their weapons. The vehicle also features aluminum armor, providing protection against small arms fire and shell splinters, though additional ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor) kits can be installed for enhanced survivability.

The BMP-3 has been widely exported to countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Greece, and it continues to be modernized with enhanced optics, fire control systems, and improved armor. Despite its impressive firepower and versatility, it has faced criticism for crew ergonomics and limited protection against modern anti-tank weapons, leading to the development of upgraded versions like the BMP-3M with better survivability features.
