P-39Q Airacobra

Unassembled plastic model in 1/72 scale of a U.S. WWII fighter aircraft Bell P-39 Airacobra, which despite of being not so famous as other fighters of the war was produced in almost 10.000 units between 1940 and 1944. Available since the start of the war for the U.S. also saw service through lend-lease programs with the Soviet Union (where Soviet pilots achieved the highest number of kills attributed to any U.S. fighter type), Free French Forces, British RAF and the Italian Co-Belligerent Air Force after 1943 armistice.

Though the aircraft had a good performance it had important limitations on high altitude, this relegated the aircraft in both Western Europe and Pacific theatre. Over half of the production were delivered to Soviet Union, conditions of the air fights in the Eastern Theatre were ideal for the Airacobra, as most of the combats were at low/mid altitude.

Q variant (P-39Q) was the last production variant, ran during 1944.

Arma Hobby always do careful packaged kits, in this case the set includes painting mask for canopy and wheels and also steel balls to add weight on the nose. This is a kit tooled in 2022.

Kit includes decal sheet with five markings as follows:

  • P-39Q-1 Airacobra, 6th Fighter Squadron, 15th Fighter Group, Makin, Gilbert Islands, late 1943.
  • P-39Q-15 Airacobra, 10° gruppo, 4° Stormo, Italian Co-Beligerent Air Force, Galatina Air Base, Italy, November 1944.
  • P-39Q-6 Airacobra, 82nd TRS, 71st Tactical Reconnaissance Group, pilot: Lt. Michael Moffitt, Saidor, New Guinea, Spring 1944.
  • P-39Q-20 Airacobra, 2nd Mixed-Special Air Regiment, Polish “people’s” Aviation, pilot gen. col. Fiodor Polynin, Warsaw 1945.

*The 3D printed bonus parts were intended only for those pre-ordering the kit directly in the Arma Hobby online shop. These parts includes pilot seat with seat belts, cockpit details, machine gun barrels and exhaust pipes.
