Description:

Armstrong Whitworth Meteor

Unassembled plastic model kit in 1/72 scale of a British Gloster Meteor jet fighter aircraft, the only operational jet of the Allies in the WWII.

The Meteor was produced in large numbers and had a long life, almost 4000 units were produced in different versions and upgrades. As Gloster was not able to satisfy all the production, Armstrong Whitworth was awarded with full production models since F.4 variant.

Although Matchbox doesn’t say it in the box, the kit refers to an Armstrong Whitworth who ended designing and producing the night fighters variant, Armstrong Whitworth Meteor NF.11. Variants NF.12, NF.13 and NF.14 were variants of the NF.11 with changes.

To cover this variations, kit included three different noses, two different cockpits and tails and two different canopies.

Original Matchbox kit released in 1986 and only released one more time in 1998 but with a different code number and decal sheet, see Matchbox – 40124 – Gloster Meteor NF11/12/14.

Decal sheet in this kit contained three markings, one Belgium and two RAF markings.

Later, in 2007, XtraKit released this same Matchbox kit updated with new decals.
