General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark

The General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark was a groundbreaking Cold War-era aircraft that served in multiple roles, including tactical strike, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare. Introduced in the 1960s, it was one of the first production aircraft to feature variable-sweep wings, terrain-following radar, and afterburning turbofan engines, enabling high-speed low-level penetration missions. Though originally developed for both the U.S. Air Force and Navy under the controversial TFX program, only the Air Force adopted the type, operating several variants through the 1990s.
