ARII – AR704 – Metal Battler Balgus (Galvion)

Released in 1984, the ARII 1/72 Metal Battler Balgus (catalog AR704-400) is a fully original sculpt included in ARII’s mid-80s Galvion Series, based on designs from Tokuso Kihei Galvion. As an adversarial mecha deployed as an attack unit in the anime, Balgus features a heavily armored silhouette with distinct spiked shoulders and broad limb plating.

The kit is molded in single-tone styrene, reflecting its original tooling, and requires traditional glue assembly. Build complexity is moderate; seam cleanup is recommended around the torso and shoulder add-ons, but part fit is generally consistent after light test-fitting.

Surface sculpting includes clean panel lines and characteristic armor ridges faithful to the source material. Articulation is limited, with basic joint placement for legs and arms, sufficient for a stable standing pose but not for dynamic gestures. Decals are limited, but the kit’s form and profile remain instantly recognizable from the show.

As a stand-in for the Metal Battler class, Balgus holds nostalgic value and bring varied silhouettes to a Galvion collection. While sealed examples are infrequent on the market, the original AR704-400 tooling is regarded as collectible for fans of retro mecha.
