Galvion

Anime series Chō Kōsoku Galvion (also known as Super High-Speed Galvion) aired in 1984 and quickly gained cult status for its distinctive blend of high-tech racing machines and transforming mecha. Although the show was cut short at just 22 episodes, its mechanical designs stood out with a unique fusion of Formula-style vehicle aesthetics and humanoid robots, capturing the essence of early 80s sci-fi anime.

In 1/72 scale, Galvion was represented by several model kit lines from Japanese brands including ARII, LS, Academy, and later, Wave, and working in a wide range of scales.

ARII produced the largest and most recognizable series in 1/72 scale, covering four Chaser support units (Breast, Atomic, Road, and Rescue), and two enemy mecha from the Metal Battler class—Balgus and Laggdol. These kits were typical of their time: molded in single-color plastic and built for static poses.

LS offered Road Fighter and Road Attacker kits under the “Galvion I” label. These were released in 1984 as well but are now difficult to find, with limited information available. These LS kits are pretty much equal to ARII ones. Academy later added its own version of the Road Attacker in the 1990s, molded in two colors.

The Galvion lineup captures a moment in modeling history when animation tie-ins were just beginning to take hold, offering both nostalgic charm and a snapshot of evolving design trends in 1/72 scale sci-fi subjects.
