Description:

The Douglas DC-2 was a groundbreaking American airliner that first flew in 1934, representing a major step forward in commercial aviation. Developed by the Douglas Aircraft Company, it was the direct predecessor of the more famous DC-3, and introduced all-metal construction, retractable landing gear, and streamlined aerodynamics that made it significantly faster and more reliable than earlier aircraft. With seating for 14 passengers and a top speed of around 210 mph (338 km/h), the DC-2 set new standards for comfort, safety, and efficiency in air travel, attracting widespread interest from airlines around the world.

Although it was soon overshadowed by the more capacious and versatile DC-3, the DC-2 was an important technological leap in its own right. It proved the viability of modern airliners for commercial operations and laid the foundation for global air transport. The aircraft also saw military service, notably in the form of the C-32 and C-33 variants used by the U.S. Army Air Corps. Despite a relatively short production run of around 198 units, the DC-2 left a lasting legacy, helping to establish Douglas as a dominant force in the aviation industry and ushering in a new era of fast, safe, and dependable air travel.

This is an original MPM Productions kit released in the year 2000, and updated several times since then. The kit is now issued with a small set of 3D printed parts to enhance some aspects of the model.

Decal sheet include 5 different markings, including U.S. marking EAL (Eastern Air Line), two Australian markings, ANA (Australian National Airways) and AOA (Airlines of Australia), one Japanese marking, Imperial Japanese Airways (Dai Nippon Kōkū Kabushiki Kaisha) and one Czechoslovak Air Transport Co. (ČLS – Československá Letecká Společnost).
