Imex – 520 – Mexican Artillery At The Alamo

Unpainted plastic soldiers in 1/72 scale depicting Mexican artillery and infantry. Box contains 37 figures in 13 different poses and 4 guns.

The guns themselves are pretty basic and rather small but still useful for their role. For each gun, you have a crew of 5 poses, which is a reasonable and good number, with common poses for the task. This gives 20 crew figures.

The remaining 17 figures are a mix of infantry figures, 16 figures in 7 different poses, including some poses also present in the Infantry set (Imex – 510 – Mexican Infantry), plus some new unique poses that expand the infantry options, a interesting team of two figures carrying a munition box (you get two of them) a flag bearer and an officer. Lastly a civilian (Mexican costume) is included.

We find the poses and balance of the figures numbers good, detail is very soft, these are hard to paint figures. Usually they were cast in a vivid red color, not a good choice in our opinion, but seems later examples are cast in blue, though still a too vivid color for our taste.

This is the only Mexican Artillery set produced for the period and this part of the North American history so despite its flaws it’s still a must have set if you have interest in this period.
