The battle of Marathon was fought by Athenians supported by small contingent of Plataeans, in around a number of 10000 together and inflicted a crucial defeat to a far superior in number Persian force that ended the first Persian invasion of Greece.

Box contains 48 figure sin 12 different poses, split in two sprue of 6 figures each, and each sprue 2x format.

Poses are a mix of action and standing poses, as well as a mix of hoplites and auxiliares troops. The main bulk of the set are hoplites with 3 auxiliares poses. Most of the poses are dynamic and engaged in battle, though the selection of poses doesn’t allows to build a phalange formation.

The poses are well executed and though a classic two sides mold with shields attached to figures has been employed, the always difficult task with this engineering to depict shields in a convincing pose has been achieve in some of them while other still suffer of unrealistic shields positions not covering the owner too much. The auxiliaries are a selection of slingers, arches and javelins, are nicely done, but a single pose for each one limits their use. A well collection of shields, helmets and armors are shown in the hoplites, though not all of them might be accurate for Marathon.

In general terms the set is a good set, the main question is the mix of poses of each type, not allowing a phalange or any kind of organized contingent, but all of them being correct and useful a part of this fact about the phalange. Chintoys is a well stablished manufacturer of 1/32 scale plastic toy soldiers and this set in 1/72 scale (the second one of the brand by code number) breathe the spirit of the classic 1/32 plastic toy soldiers, in terms of poses, with a good detail level for 1/72 scale.
