Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0441 – P-51D-5 Mustang “52nd FG”

Description:

Unassembled plastic model kit in 1/72 scale of a U.S. North American P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft in an early D variant (P-51D-5).

Variant of kit Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) – KPM0439 – P-51D-5 Mustang “357.th FG” with a new decal sheet focused on the 52nd FG (fighter group).

The 52nd Fighter Group was also deployed to UK as part of the Eighth Air Force, the group trained with  Bell P-39 Airacobra and Curtiss P-40 and once in Europe, they were given Supermarine Spitfires and moved to the Mediterranean theater. In April and May 1944 the group switched to P-51D Mustangs. The group completed around 315 combat missions and gained the nickname of “Yellow Tails” because had adopted yellow markings that covered the entire tail of the aircraft, the decal sheet covers one of the markings with this paint schema, for an aircraft from the 5th Fighter Squadron. The other two markings included belongs to the 2nd Fighter Squadron. All of them based in Italy around summer 1944.
