The SPAD XIII was first used in 1917 and was one of the most important fighter aircraft of WW I. Mainly French flying aces gained considerable success. French but also British and American units flew this fighter.

This little kit has been around for a long time, as originally was tooled in 1963 and later updated in 1975.

The pictures below belongs to 2006 reissue, which included new decal sheet with two markings, one French and one British, in the latest release, 2009, it only included a French marking.

Molds clearly show signs of age, flash is present in almost every part, both bigger and smaller ones, which ensures you a nice and happy time cleaning the parts before assemble.

This WWI kits are all usually low number of parts, they was “simple” aircrafts and they are “simple” kits. Revell kit consists of just 26 parts including a seat pilot looking terrible small for 1/72 scale, not bad tooled considering the age but probably you may want to replace it or just don’t use it.

Instructions sheet consists of just 10 steps, being the last step the ridging (thread not included), and being this the usually more complex step in a WWI plane. Revell instructions doesn’t help too much, they are summarized in a frontal view and a side view and certainly you will feel pain if trying to add the ridge just with the instructions help and many modelers will just skip this. Search for assistance on forums and internet pictures because instructions are just not enough to properly ridge it is our recommendation.

The decal sheet, in the latest releases, are just excellent prints, both 2006 and 2009 releases at least.
