As the war progressed and Japan faced severe shortages of strategic materials — especially aluminum — efforts were made to replace metal components with wood wherever possible.

The Ki-106 was part of that effort. Built by Tachikawa Hikoki K.K., it maintained the overall shape, dimensions, and armament of the original Ki-84 but substituted much of the airframe structure with wooden materials. The aircraft was heavier due to the wood construction, which affected its performance negatively compared to the standard Ki-84. Only a few prototypes were completed and tested before the end of the war, and it never saw combat or serial production.

It’s important to note that no color information is provided for the interior or wheel wells, and given the aircraft’s wooden construction, traditional metal primers like aotake would not be appropriate.
