Unassembled plastic model kit in 1/72 scale of a U.S. F-35C 5th generation stealth multi-role fighter.

The F-35C was developed specifically for carrier operations, and its design differs significantly from the F-35A and B variants. Larger wings with folding tips allow for more controlled landings and compact stowage aboard aircraft carriers, while reinforced landing gear and a twin-wheel nose strut are built to withstand the extreme stress of catapult launches and arrested landings at sea. Tamiya’s model incorporates all of these features with newly tooled parts and crisp, recessed surface detailing that includes finely molded Radar Absorbent Material (RAM) patterns across the fuselage. The interior of the landing gear bays is fully detailed with ribbing and piping, and the lower fuselage is designed to accept or exclude the gun pod depending on how the modeler wishes to depict the aircraft—either with radar cross section enhancers used during training or in a cleaner operational configuration.

The kit includes a realistically sculpted Martin-Baker US16E ejection seat and a seated pilot figure complete with Helmet-Mounted Display. Clear parts provide a sharp representation of the canopy and the Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) fairing beneath the nose. Weaponry includes two AIM-9X Sidewinders, and optional parts allow the builder to choose between extended or folded wingtip positions. Masking stickers are also provided for clean canopy painting.

Tamiya rounds out the package with a high-quality decal sheet offering six different marking options, three from the U.S. Navy and three from the U.S. Marine Corps, giving builders the flexibility to represent several real-world aircraft.

This Tamiya kit is part of the family tooled in 2023, started with Tamiya – 60792 – Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II, continued in 2024 with Tamiya – 60793 – Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II and completed in 2025 with this new F-35C kit. They ARE NOT Italeri reissues as the previous Tamiya F-35 kits.
