The Shannon Class Lifeboat represents a significant leap forward in maritime rescue technology, embodying both innovation and practicality. At approximately 13 meters in length, this cutting-edge vessel is the first in the RNLI fleet to utilize water jet propulsion, a feature that markedly enhances its maneuverability. Capable of speeds up to 25 knots, the Shannon can swiftly respond to emergencies, navigating shallow waters and executing sharp turns with ease. This agility is complemented by a lightweight yet robust composite construction, ensuring the lifeboat can withstand the harshest of sea conditions while providing a stable platform for rescue operations.

Inside, the Shannon Class is equipped with state-of-the-art electronic navigation and communication systems, allowing the crew to operate with precision and efficiency. The six volunteer crew members benefit from shock-absorbing seats, designed to minimize injury during high-speed missions in rough seas. With a range of 250 nautical miles, the Shannon is well-suited for a variety of search and rescue scenarios, from assisting stranded vessels to conducting medical evacuations. This lifeboat is not just a vessel but a testament to the RNLI’s commitment to continuous improvement, incorporating valuable feedback from seasoned crew members to ensure it meets the demanding needs of lifesaving missions.

New tool in 2024, starter set edition includes six paints, two brushes and glue. Kit consists of just 54 plastic parts including the display stand. One single marking provided.

The kit has been engineered to be an easy build, suitable for ages up to 8 years old and all kind of modelers.

This is an expand of the RNLI Airfix line complementing the existing Airfix – A07280 – RNLI Severn Class Lifeboat.

Airfix has released also a separate larger decal sheet and guide which allows to build any of the 50 Shannon Class Lifeboats in service.
