Revell – 05180 – German Submarine Type IX C (U505) “Platinum Edition”

Description:

Unassembled plastic model kit in 1/72 scale of a German Type IX WWII submarine, designed in mid 30s as a large ocean-going submarine for sustained operations far from the home. Around 194 were completed between 1937 and 1945. Type IX C was a refinement of the series, with extended range and around 87 units completed in total.

“Platinum Edition” of Revell U-boat Class IX C/40 German WWII submarine kit, tooled in 2013. The kit stands out as unique in its class and well appreciate by modelers fans of the subject. Size and number of parts make it a non affordable kit for beginners.

As “Platinum Edition” the kit is complemented with PE (photo-etched) parts and self-adhesive wooden deck. Kit measures 1063 mm, width of 95 mm and height of 225 mm once built and in total consists of over 800 parts. The model include movable snorkel mast, an Atlantic bow and retractable periscopes. plus a 2 cm twin anti-aircraft gun on a rotating mount and a highly detailed 3.7 cm anti-aircraft gun, with metal tubes provided.

Kit include also decal sheet allowing markings U997, U995, U295, U324, U307, U1023, U1002 and U1105 according the manufacturer product page, which might be wrong as many if not all of these numerals belongs to Type VIIC submarines. The title of the box, U-505, makes more sense as marking included, a preserved Type IX C submarine, captured by the U.S. in June 1944.
