UMMT – 708 – RBT-5 tank with a rectangular turret and a rocket gun (RS-132 shell)

Description:

Unassembled plastic model kit in 1/72 scale of a Soviet 30s RBT-5 tank, one of the multiple experimental projects which used the BT tanks series chassis as base. The kit updates the UMMT BT-5 base kit with new 3D printed parts. UMMT has a long trajectory of BT Fast tanks kits.

The RBT-5 was developed in the USSR in 1934-1935 at the Rocket Research Institute. It was based on the BT-5 fast tank, featuring a specially designed rectangular turret that housed the main missile weapon. This weapon was a 200 cm long launch tube designed for 132 mm caliber rockets, equipped with three T-iron guides inside. The tank carried 18 rockets, stored in special racks inside the turret and external side boxes on the fenders. A DT machine gun served as the secondary weapon. Rockets were manually loaded through hatches in the turret, and firing was electrically ignited using power from the vehicle’s batteries. Though only a prototype was completed in 1935, the lessons learned contributed to later missile tank designs based on the T-34 and KV.

Given that the actual vehicle only existed as a single prototype, some elements may be speculative, but overall, the model stays true to known historical records.
