Super Dimensional Century Orguss

Super Dimension Century Orguss, also known as Super Dimensional Century Orguss, is a 35-episode mecha anime that is part of the “Super Dimension” trilogy produced by the Japanese company Big West. This 1983 series follows The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (1982–1983), created by Studio Nue in collaboration with Artland and produced by Tatsunoko Productions, and precedes Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross, also developed by Studio Nue and Tatsunoko.

Unlike Macross and Southern Cross, Orguss was not included in the Robotech adaptation, as Tatsunoko did not hold its license. Instead, Genesis Climber Mospeada was used. The only connection between the three series is the shared “Super Dimension” title, with no narrative links between them.

As happened with other Anime series of the time, several Japanese makers jumped into the merchandise, also on the scale models topic, and as in other cases, Imai amongst them, and producing 1/72 scale models. Imai also produced other scales and Arii took over 1/48 production of the subject. Years later for the 40 anniversary (2024) Good Smile Company has renewed interest for the topic, but sadly not using any particular standard scale.

The 80’s Imai kits are not posable or transformable, and glue is required for assembly.
