Description:

Unpainted plastic soldiers in 1/72 scale depicting Byzantine Light Cavalry.

The East Roman empire was still a vast empire composed of many different regions and persons, they widely used mercenaries and supplied armies from their vassals, in particular for “cheap” troops like Light Cavalry, compared to the heavier Cataphracts so Red Box had in this topic a wide range of options, but opted by a pretty much uniform type of cavalry men, noticeable in shields and helmets.

The box contains 12 mounted figures in 6 different poses, horses also in 6 poses.

You could expect of a light cavalry, used to skirmish, a higher presence of archers, but box include only 2 archer poses while the rest (and also all those from set 2, Red Box – 72138 – Byzantine Light Cavalry Set 2) are using spears or hand weapons, though in this set, most of the poses has a bow, but they aren’t using it. Figures seems to be valid for a wide range of time, but in particular for 8th to 12th centuries.
