The MiG-19P was an early radar-equipped variant of the MiG-19, marking a significant step in Soviet efforts to develop an effective all-weather interceptor during the 1950s. Building on the basic MiG-19 design—the first Soviet jet capable of sustained supersonic flight—the “P” model introduced radar-guided targeting for improved capability in poor visibility or night operations.

It was fitted with the RP-1 Izumrud radar system, housed in a distinctive radome within the aircraft’s nose air intake splitter. This radar allowed the pilot to detect and track targets without visual contact, a major advancement for Soviet fighter design at the time. Unlike the later MiG-19PM, the MiG-19P retained its cannon armament, typically two 30mm NR-30 guns, giving it powerful short-range firepower while maintaining a degree of close-combat flexibility.

In terms of performance, the MiG-19P shared the same core airframe and engine layout as other MiG-19 models, featuring twin Tumansky RD-9 afterburning turbojets, sharply swept wings, and a fast rate of climb. It could reach speeds over Mach 1.2 and was agile at altitude, though it had handling quirks and demanded skill from its pilots.

The MiG-19P served primarily in Soviet and Warsaw Pact air defense units during the mid-to-late 1950s, playing an important role during a period of rapid technological change. It helped lay the groundwork for later interceptors like the MiG-21 and MiG-23, representing a key step in the evolution from day fighters to all-weather guided-interceptor platforms.

Kit features a decal sheet with 5 different markings, with options for Soviet, Polish, Cuban, Bulgarian and Czechoslovak markings.

Contains 173 plastic parts, a PE (photo-etched) sheet with 21 parts and two 3D Printed parts, the kit stands out by its super detail and quite complex built despite its nice engineering. The kit is intended for advanced modelers and lovers of the fine detail.
