The Fiat G.50bis was an improved version of Italy’s first modern monoplane fighter with an enclosed cockpit and retractable landing gear. Introduced in the early 1940s, the “bis” featured an extended range thanks to added fuselage fuel tanks and a modified tail section, making it better suited for operations in the vast and open combat theaters of North Africa and the Balkans.

Though limited in armament—typically two 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns—the G.50bis offered good maneuverability and was rugged and reliable in frontline service. Italian pilots flew the type in multiple roles, including air defense, ground attack, and escort duties. By the time of its introduction, however, it was already outclassed by more heavily armed Allied and German fighters, limiting its impact in contested airspace.

Despite these limitations, the G.50bis served with distinction in several campaigns, and its streamlined, low-wing design has become an enduring symbol of early WWII Regia Aeronautica engineering.

The kit reuses FLY plastic parts Fly – 72049 – FIAT G.50 BIS/AS updated with new 3D printed parts, mostly replacing resin parts present in FLY releases, and a new decal uses that focuses in Italian markings, including 4 different markings dated 1941 to 1943.
