The Fiat G.50bis represented a practical evolution of the original G.50 fighter, adapted to meet the growing demands of the Regia Aeronautica in the early 1940s. While visually similar to its predecessor, the bis variant introduced additional fuel capacity and structural refinements, extending both its operational range and tactical flexibility.

This variant saw extensive service in the Mediterranean and Eastern Fronts, flown by Italian units in Greece, North Africa, and even with the Finnish Air Force under Axis cooperation. Its relatively light armament was a drawback, but pilots appreciated the type’s durability and easy handling, particularly in the harsh conditions of desert airfields or rugged Balkan terrain.

The G.50bis was eventually overshadowed by more capable fighters like the Macchi C.202, but it remained in service into 1943, illustrating the resilience of its design.
