Description:

The MiG-21F-13 was one of the earliest and most iconic variants of the MiG-21 family, marking a major step in Soviet jet fighter development during the Cold War. Entering service in the late 1950s, it was a lightweight, supersonic interceptor, designed primarily for speed and simplicity, with a distinctive delta wing and needle-sharp nose intake.

The “F” stood for “Forsirovannyy” (uprated), and the “13” indicated the version equipped with a K-13 air-to-air missile, a Soviet copy of the American AIM-9 Sidewinder. It also featured a single 30mm NR-30 cannon, but unlike later MiG-21 variants, the F-13 had no radar—only a basic gun sight and limited avionics. This made it a pure point-defense interceptor, meant to scramble quickly and engage enemy aircraft at short range.
