The Gloster Meteor F Mk.III was one of the early production variants of the first operational British jet fighter, the Gloster Meteor, and played a crucial role in transitioning the Royal Air Force (RAF) into the jet age. Entering service in 1944, the F Mk.III represented a significant improvement over the initial F Mk.I, primarily thanks to its upgraded Rolls-Royce Derwent I turbojet engines, which offered more thrust and better reliability compared to the earlier Welland engines.

The Meteor F Mk.III retained the straight-wing design and conventional tail of the earlier models but was faster and more maneuverable, capable of speeds around 600 mph (965 km/h). It was armed with four 20 mm Hispano cannons mounted in the nose, giving it formidable firepower for the time. Initially intended for air defense and bomber escort duties, the Meteor F Mk.III saw limited combat against manned aircraft during World War II, as German jets like the Me 262 were rare and the Luftwaffe was in decline by 1944. Instead, the Meteor was famously deployed to intercept V-1 flying bombs, where its speed and armament proved highly effective.

Operationally, the F Mk.III served with several RAF squadrons from late 1944 and into the immediate post-war years. It was also exported to countries like Australia and Belgium, where it formed the basis of early jet fighter forces. Though quickly superseded by later Meteor marks with improved performance and features, the F Mk.III remains historically significant as one of the world’s first truly practical jet fighters to see operational service.

The kit is based in the old MPM Productions tool from 2006. Include a decal sheet with four markings, dated in 1945 (three) and one in 1948. Kits are good quality, thought cockpit is quite simplified.
