Description:

Unassembled plastic model kit in 1/72 scale of a U.S. Boeing KC-97 Stratofreighter tanker aircraft developed from the C-97 cargo aircraft.

KC-97L was a modification of existing K-97G (dual purpose cargo and tanker variant) adding  two J47 turbojet engines on underwing pylons, this increased the speed of aircraft making it possible to refuel newer quicker jet aircrafts like F-84, F-100, and F-101. This modification started in the early 60s and around 81 K-97G were converted.

Kit is a modification of Academy – 1605 – KC-97G Flying Boom Tanker, the new jet engines are placed where the K-97G external fuel tanks were located. Both shares parts with other Academy kits, mainly coming from the Academy – 1604 – C-97A Stratofreighter.

Kit include a decal sheet with 6 different markings, U.S. Air Force and Spanish Air Force:

  • Ohio ANG 22630 ‘Zeppelinheim’
  • Illinois ANG 20884
  • Wisconsin ANG 20905
  • Arizona ANG 30208
  • Texas ANG 30243
  • 123 Sqn, Spanish AF
